daw.com - November 9

Once again a week has passed and what a great week it was.  We had time with a storyteller, we had our final swim time to show off our skills and we are winding down the argumentative essay unit and the Globalization unit.

Please remember there are only 3 days next week - Monday to Wednesday.  Thursday is a school professional day and Friday is a school holiday.  The week after this I will be away with the High School Model United Nations club in Singapore where they are attending an MUN conference.  While not with the ES it is still something that I greatly enjoy.

This coming week will see the students spend two days preparing for their debate on whether or not globalization is a good thing.  We have already done some research on this topic and now it will be time to zero in on it and then debate the topic.  I can hardly wait.

We have also completed our first drafts of the Research Based Argumentative Essay and will see these finally published by Wednesday of next week.  So far things are moving well with this and there are some interesting essays being created.

Our math unit moved into division this week with a look at what remainders are and how they should actually be a part of the quotient.  We even found a way to represent this with both math manipulative and also in drawing/model form.  Next week we do the standard algorithm and also begin division of decimals.  We still have about 2 weeks of this unit left.

There are two community building activities going on in the ES right now - the Children of Madaifu Apple Sale and also the used clothing drive from the Roots and Shoots club.  If you are so inclined, I know the students would be grateful for any assistance you can offer.  The order form for the apples is linked here to this email and used clothing can be dropped off in the boxes at the entrance to the school and also thought the ES school.  Thanks in advance for your support.

That is it for this week.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.  I will gladly set up a time to meet with you.
