daw.com - June 8

Another year has come to and end and with it comes the end of my adventure in China.  I have to admit that it has been a very interesting 9 years.  My next adventure will be Seoul, Korea where I will continue to teach grade 5 at Seoul Foreign School.

The final week of school will see report cards emailed to parents on Tuesday. That will complete the assessment phase of this year. I am more than pleased with the growth I have seen in my students this year and there should be no surprises on the report cards.

Our week is still quite full with the following activities - Grade 6 science fair, ice cream making, grade 5 BBQ, dry and dodgy, class party, video review, leavers assembly, grade 5 goodbye to the ES and then dismissal for summer break.  All in all, still a lot going on.

I have been asked by parents what students can work on over the summer.  First off I want to say that they have already worked very hard this year and deserve a break.  They can still continue with reading for learning as this continues to be a major emphasis in grade 6.  For the last two weeks of summer all students should also review and re-memorize their multiplication tables to 10 x 10.  I have told students that the vast majority of the mathematical work they will do for the rest of their lives will be multiplication so if they have this memorized then it will serve them well in their math studies.

I do hope everyone has a great summer vacation and where ever your travels take you, please remain safe.  Get plenty of rest and enjoy what you do.

This is 5HD signing off from International School Beijing.  Good luck and please stay in touch.
