daw.com - June 6

We have come to the last week of grade 5 and I can say without any doubt how much I have enjoyed and learned with your students.  They are truly an amazing group of children and I see great things in their future.

There is no homework next week.  This is my gift to them, even though there would have been only two days anyway.  They were happy when I announced this to them.

Tuesday is the promotion ceremony starting at 10:45.  You should have received an email from Mr. Prest with the links to this. If not, please contact the ES office and they can help you out.  We will have a practice session on Monday.  Attire for this ceremony is concert attire - white shirt, black pants/skirt, black socks and dress shoes.  After this is over, my students will have PE so they will most likely want to change into their PE uniform.  However, it is free dress so they can choose to change as they wish.

We will start to clean out our room on Monday and I have asked students to bring an extra bag since there could be a lot of material going home.  Please discuss with your student the expectation you have about this.  I always encourage things to go home, but some students just throw everything away.  I leave this up to you.

Mrs. Breedlove is coming in on Tuesday afternoon to get everyone updated and cleaned up on their computer.  This is in preparation for middle school.

Summer check out of library books has started.  They can sign books out from either the ES or MS library but must do this electronically and the books will be delivered to them.  They all have a link from Mrs. Hanratty on how to do this that I sent to them over a week ago now.  It was also in my letter last week.

On Thursday students only need to bring their computer and a snack.  There is no lunch this day and the cafeteria is closed.  Busses will roll out of the school at 12:15 and summer break begins.

We are busy finishing off our Volume City project and also our Hero’s Journey silhouettes. These should be done and go home by Wednesday of next week.

There are no yearbooks this year as there was a glitch in getting them here in time.  Returning students will pick up their yearbook at the start of the year and those leaving will have them mailed out.  It does mean there will be no autographing so I am going to have a single sheet made up with everyone’s autographs and pictures.  They can just add this to their yearbook when they get it.

We said our goodbye to Hailey who is leaving this year and we also completed her farewell book.  We all wish her good luck in her new school and adventure.

It has been my honor and privilege to teach your students this year.  As I have remarked all year long, they are an amazing group and I do hope they will want to come back to visit sometime. I also want to thank all of you parents, especially for the last 3 months.  This was a unique time in history and one not planned for.  It tested all of us but we came through it and I am hoping it never happens again.  All of you are the true heroes this year and I salute you for a job well done.

Please stay safe and healthy over the summer break.

This is Mr. Daw signing off for the 19-20 school year.
